رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Rabbi laa tadharnii fardan wa anta Khayrul-waarithiin. (21:89)
My Lord, leave me not childless, even though You are the Best of heirs.
This was the du’aa of Sayyidnaa Zakariyyaa (Zachariah) (a.s.). It was granted and he was bestowed with Sayyidnaa Yahyaa (John) (a.s.). He had prayed to be granted a child who would be his heir. That desire was human. However, it is part of the prophetic wisdom to remember that ultimately Allah Ta’aala is the inheritor of the entire world. Hence the second part of this du’aa.

Oh Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) and strengthen the imaan of the believers – especially our children and our youth – grant us steadfastness and barakah in all that is good and pleasing to You. Ameen.
